Root canal in New York City - What Happens During a Root Canal Procedure?
Root canals are sometimes needed by patients when they have an infected tooth. This can be caused by either a progression in periodontal disease, or by tooth decay that has been left untreated. Any time the dental pulp (or the inside tissues) of a tooth are infected, a root canal may be considered in order to save the natural tooth from extraction.
A root canal is an extensive procedure that involves going inside of the tooth and removing all of the infected parts of the tooth. Oftentimes, before the procedure, a dentist will prescribe antibiotics in order to address the infection. The root canal is then scheduled in order to address the problem. Dr. Antonio will drill into the infected tooth and will manually remove all of the dental pulp. This includes tissue and nerves that help keep the tooth alive with blood supply. The inside of the canals are then filled with a dental filling, and then the tooth is capped with a crown. It is essential that a tooth that has received root canal therapy have a post and crown inserted. This will prevent the tooth from breakage. Root canals are not painful as commonly believed by the general public. The symptoms that lead an individual to receive a root canal can be painful, but once the issue is addressed, the patient can be on their way to living without discomfort. If you have been experiencing pain and are concerned that you may be in need of a root canal, it is essential that you make an appointment as soon as possible to have the issue addressed. If you are in the New York City area, call Dr. Antonio of Personal Touch Dentistry, PC and get on your way to relieving yourself of the pain and discomfort you are experiencing.
